The OG Fortnite Effect
By Corey Daniels Since its release in 2017, Fortnite has had a massive impact on players and the gaming community. Coming onto the market, Fortnite had a unique battle royale gameplay that hooked many players. The game built a community, as friends could connect and play together and create memories. Many Kapaun Mt. Carmel students reminisce about these moments.
“Mentally Fortnite has put me in the best place I’ve ever been in my life,” senior Alex Grajeda. “I love Fortnite; the OG (original) season is the best.”
The gaming community has held OG Fortnite close to their hearts. Epic Games announced that Fortnite OG will be back Dec. 6. This brought back many memories for lots of players and many shared their thoughts on the announcement.
“I’m delighted that they’re bringing the OG season back,” senior Brynn Jessup said. “Fortnite has been lacking with its current seasons and I’m excited to see it back in its former glory.”
With the release of the new mode, some students have had to find a unique balance between gaming and school.
“I love OG Fortnite, I’m addicted,” senior Ethan Sauer said. “Fortnite has not affected my grades in class, I always stay on top of the grades and make sure to put the homework aside to prioritize Fortnite.”
Although Fortnite has been received well, a few students believe there are downsides.
“A lot of people enjoy the new OG Fortnite, I don’t think it’s as fun because you can’t do things like drive cars to get out of the storm or open the vault to get special weapons to achieve a Victory Royale,” junior Margo Dester said.
Overall, the return of OG Fortnite has received positive reception and viewed as a good move from Epic Games.
