Religious Groups At KMC
KNIGHTS OF THE MORNING STAR
Knights was founded by Rev. Curtis Hecker, former chaplain, and focuses on growing in brotherhood, friendship, and most importantly a relationship with Christ through Mary. Knights of the Morning Star is open exclusively to boys, they meet at around 5:30 p.m. every other Wednesday.
"My favorite part about Knights is the incredible brotherhood and community," said senior Benjamin Weber, who has been in Knights for three years. "In my experience at Kapaun, there is no other place where true brotherhood is more prevalent than at knights. I joined Knights because my friends were in it and I had only really heard good things about it. I desired to be a part of a strong and vibrant community which Knights had. People should join Knights because it provides an amazing community that canât be found in other places."
HANDMAIDS OF MARY
Handmaids primarily consist of young women who want to grow in their faith and their relationship with Mary. During their meetings they start with prayer, they may go to the chapel, have a guest speaker or make rosaries while discussing upcoming events. Currently, the main focus of their meetings is preparing for their Marian Consecration, which will take place on Dec. 12.
"The purpose of [Handmaids] is to encourage a mother/daughter relationship with Our Blessed Mother," said Sr. Veronica Marie Miller, IHM, the group sponsor. "Handmaids of Mary consists of young women who desire to grow in authentic virtue and develop a genuine life of prayer. We seek a virtuous sisterhood full of trust and support."
Handmaids of Mary meets every Wednesday at 7:15 a.m., and is only open to girls.
"I joined Handmaids because of the friendly community of girls surrounding the group," said sophomore Anne Tran. "Handmaids offers a safe and inviting community for young women who want to embrace their faith with other like-minded girls. Our main focus in Handmaids is to honor our mother Mary."
CRUSADERS FOR LIFE
Crusaders for Life primarily focuses on students learning the value of life. They meet every other Thursday before school at 7:15 a.m. in Room 214. Their main goal is to help others recognize the importance of human life. During these meetings they read experts from books, watch documentaries and talk about any upcoming events. Breakfast is also provided at these meetings.
"The main focus [of Crusaders for Life] is to pray for the end of abortion and through prayer, help those who are considering killing their child," said junior Sandy Reimers, who has participated in Crusaders for Life since freshman year. "We also want to shed light on the fact that [abortion] is harmful not only to the baby, but also to the mother, and those around her. Another main factor of the club is to educate young adults on the importance of protecting human life at all stages because we are all created in the image and likeness of God. I would encourage people to join Crusaders for Life because according to our Catholic faith, we are to value the lives of all. Many may think that our club is only about saving babies, but it also talks about taking care of our elderly."
LIVE THE FOURTH
Live the Fourth's purpose is to help students continue to grow in their spiritual life after going on their Kairos retreat. Live the Fourth will meet on Wednesdays, before school starts. It will give students the opportunity to go to confession, Eucharistic adoration and worship the Lord.
"I really want to give an opportunity to keep energy and excitement going after the Kairos retreat," said Rev. Seth Arnold. "What I'm going to do is really focus on Eucharistic adoration, praise and worship and confessions. I think that one of the highlights of Kairos is that people go to confession, sometimes for the first time in a long time. So, I want to use that time on Wednesday mornings, especially right after the Kairos retreat, to keep that fire going and to give them the opportunity to receive the sacrament of confession."
