Christmas time can be considered a time where people watch a lot of movies. Out of 165 students surveyed on Nov. 14, 32 percent of KMC students surveyed picked "Home Alone" as their favorite. The survey shows that this is a cherished movie, which I agree.
€ "œHome Alone's" plot features 8-year-old Kevin McCallisterâ€'s whole family traveling for a vacation, leaving Kevin home alone. The majority of the plot focuses on Kevin defeating the wet bandits— a pair of thieves—with complicated traps, then cleans up and decorates the house before his family returns, all as an 8-year-old. My favorite parts of the movie are when Kevin goes shopping and the robbers are attacked by the traps he sets up.
My least favorite parts of this movie is when Kevin attacks his older brother, Buzz and when Kevin goes shopping and lies about that he was not alone. The moral of "œHome Alone"€ is to embrace resourcefulness. Kevin shows this by setting up traps that use the items in his house.
Christmas time is about spending time with family, an idea that Kevin originally rejects. However, Kevin, once home alone, does all he can do to protect the house and help the family.
The next favorite movie, according to KMC students, is "Elf." Out of 165 students surveyed, 24 percent of the students picked "Elf" as their favorite Christmas movie.
In the Christmas classic "œElf," Buddy, a human raised by an elf, travels to New York City to find his biological human father, Walter. The majority of the plot consists of Buddy trying to convince Walter to enter into the Christmas spirit.
My favorite parts of the movie are when Buddy finds his father, tries to date Jovie who has a very sweet personality, and saves Christmas by helping Santa deliver presents to children.
My least favorite parts of the movie are when Walter tells Buddy that he does not want him in his life and when the antagonistic Central Park Ranger forced Santa into putting him on the naughty list. The moral of "€œElf" is never underestimate the gifts of others. This is shown by Buddy encouraging Jovie to sing in front of people even when she did not want to. At the end of the movie she sings in front of a huge crowd, helping to garner enough Christmas spirit to get Santa'€™s sleigh off the ground.
I like this movie because it shows how the spirit of Christmas can change even the hardest of hearts. This movie makes me think of the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ. The birth of Jesus reminds me to persevere. Buddy perservered to get his father to get into the Christmas spirit and the Christmas spirit is because of Jesus Christ. Kevin also persevered to help his family and his home.
I think that both of these movies impact people in a positive way. I also think that by watching these movies, people are more likely to express the themes in the movie.
Christmas time should be remembered as a time we reflect upon how blessed we are to have our family, and all they have done for us.
