Homecoming week, Sept. 30-Oct. 4, intrigued students because of the game, dance and the opportunity to show school spirit. The theme for HOCO week was “Under the Sea.” The queen candidates consisted of seniors Jessie Kempf, Reese Polk, Cabrini Orr, Saydie Sanders, Nautica Cash and Emma Shibley; king candidates were seniors Andrew Guyer, Austin Howard, Spencer Zachgo, Benjamin Weber, Dylan Burr and Micah Amphone.
At the football game at Stryker, seniors Dylan Burr and Nautica Cash were named king and queen.
“I thought that it was pretty cool just to be named the king,” Burr said. “It was a really fun experience to be on the field and get called out in front of everyone, and just everyone coming up and recognizing me.”
Nautica Cash said she was happy about being named Homecoming queen.
“I was really nervous, really scared and I wore my lucky ring,” Cash said. “I'm really glad, and I'm grateful, really grateful that I won with Dylan, too, because we've been together for so long, so I'm just happy it was like a perfect ending for us.”
Counselors Anna Francka and Maria Doyle headed the planning of Homecoming.
“I thought the dance was a lot of fun,” Francka said. “The kids were dancing. We had some fun music, but the DJ even said he had fun. He said it was one of the best dances he had.
“I thought the kids who decorated for the dance did an amazing job. We had different photos, spots where we saw tons of kids taking pictures. I saw a lot of kids when they walked in and saw the decorations for the first time, they're like, ‘Wow, this looks cool.’ So, I thought the kids did great decorating.
Francka commended Crusader Council for their efforts in the events of the week.
“Crusader Council put in a lot of hard work,” she said. “And, I felt like every time I walked into the dance, everyone was dancing, having fun, taking pictures. I think overall it was a fun time, and it went really well.”
