Fall Menu Feature

Kapaun Mt. Carmel has gone through significant changes in the lunch menu due to a change in lunch managers. The food being served on the entree is different than it was a few years ago. Some of the changes include; more fried foods, fewer fresh foods, and new menu items being added. The first person interviewed was Junior Margo Dester, who views things similarly. 

“It’s good, but it definitely could be better,” Dester said, “I miss the chocolate cookies and the food seems really processed. I wish the food was more fresh. The drinks definitely have more variety, but it’s not uncommon for only water to be left. Other times, there aren’t any drinks left at all. Personally, I think the food was better a few years ago, maybe I’m just not used to the food, but it seems like it’s changed and the options are just smaller.” 

Junior Tammy Le explained, “My favorite meal is the Asian chicken, it’s the best I’ve ever had,” Le said,  “I like the new drinks, especially the Vitamin Water. The strawberry lemonade one is my favorite! The cookies are still really good, but I wish they brought back the hot sandwiches. I feel like it has a lot of repetition and the options are way more limited than they were last year. Though, I do really appreciate them using the leftovers from the previous meals.” All in all, Le likes the changes that have been made to the menu. 

“We have variety so we don’t have the same thing every day or week,” one of the lunch workers, Sarah de Jesus said, “I think it has nutrition and the pastries that Esther makes come with pumpkin and apple and are low in sugar so they are very healthy. The pastries are still the same since Esther is still making them.The food may be different in some menus and not be the same, but the cheeseburgers and salads are the same as ever. Some of them have changed but I think they’re both good.” 

For the most part, many of the changes that have been made to the menu are not as good as they were in years prior. On the other hand, it also seems like some of the smaller changes that have been made, like the drink variety, are popular.
